To celebrate 'Dia Consciência Negra' aka Black Awarness Day on the 20th November, I have created a new free crochet pattern. This multicoloured POWER crochet flower represents the unity of any race through the mix of three different colours & the belief of equality created with the simple formations of knots from the crochet hook which symbolise the loving gesture of a hug. This colourful flower is both simple & easy to make & is an ideal project for your scrap yarn. Read more. [...]

Today I will be sharing with you my first free pattern. To start with I have decided to go with a classic Boho Dream catcher. This is a pattern for everyone suitable for beginners as it only uses 4 types of stitches and for those of us who are already hooked it is a quick fun project to do for your home!
To start with you will need:
- A ball of yarn any colour any size ( I have used Brazilian yarn brand Circulo, Anne in white which is of fingering weight)
- A crochet hook suitable for the yarn ( I have used a 2mm)
- A embroidery hoop (mine is 25cm radius)
- A mix of pretty things – I have used some shells I had gathering dust my every growing draw of crafty things!
To start chain 6.
Slip stitch into the first chain stitch to create a circle.
Row 1: Chain 3 (count as a dc) dc 15 into the circle, slip stitch into the 3rd chain to create a full round.
Row 2: chain 4 (count as dc and 1 chain), *dc chain 1* 15 times, slip stitch into the 3rd chain to complete the round.
Row 3: Slip stitch under into first chain space, chain 3 (count as dc), dc 2 in the same chain space, *dc 3 in each chain space* 15 times, slip stitch into the 3rd chain.
Row 4: Chain 8 miss 3 stitches, *dc in next stitch, chain 5* repeat 11 times, slip stitch into the 3rd chain.
Row 5: Slip stitich into the chain space, chain 3 and dc 6 in the same chain space, *7dc in each chain space* 11 times. Slip stitch into 3rd chain.
Row 6: Chain 3 count as dc, dc in next 6 stitches and chain 1, *dc in next 7 stitches and chain 1* 11 times, slip stitch into 3rd chain.
Row 7: Chain 3 count as dc, dc in same stitch, dc in next 5 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch chain 1, *2dc in first stitch, dc in next 5 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, chain 1* 11 times. Slip stitch into 3rd chain.
Row 8: Slip stitch into previous chain space, chain 5 and sc in the 5th dc, *chain 5 sc in chain space, chain 5 sc into the 5th dc* 11 times chain 3 dc into the first slip stitch of the row.
Row 8: Chain 6 and sc in middle of the chain stitch of the previous round, *chain 6 sc into the middle of chain space* 22 times, chain 3 and dc into the first chainof the row.
If your embroidery ring is smaller than mine reduce the number of row to fit inside the hoop. Alternatively if your hoop is bigger continue with the patter from row 8 & 9 but increase the chain number by 1 for each additional row.
Once your crochet centre is done pull the yarn through on the last stitch and leave a long tail about 2 meters to be sure.
Place your crochet in the centre of the hoop and loosely sew it onto the hoop through weaving the tail end through each chain space then around the hoop once your reach the beginning tie off.
For the tassels cut lots of strands of yarn at double the length you wish your tassel to be ( I measured out 4, 1 meter lengths and folded it half to create a 8 strand tassel). Put the folded end through the hoop as shown and pull the other end through using your fingers or a large crochet hook) Continue until you have the desired amout of tassels.
Now the beautification starts in your style. I have used some sea shells as I had some laying around in a box but you can use anything you wish, feathers, beads, pasta what ever inspires you, let your creative side run free.
Ta daarrr, one beautiful boho dream catcher to adorn your home. Mine now hangs beautifully in our garden to give us a little bit of joy each morning as we have breakfast.
